The Jet Harris Memorial Fund was set up by Jet's partner, Janet Hemingway, and Jet's PA and friend, Audrey Knapp, after Jet had sadly lost his two year battle with cancer on 18 March 2011.
Jet's cancer was a little unusual in that the primary site of the cancer was never found. In spite of numerous diagnostic tests, scans, biopsies, etc, the origin of the cancer remained undiagnosed and therefore treatment was extremely difficult.
Cancer Research UK's figures show that 'Cancer of Unknown Primary' (CUP) is responsible for over 10,000 deaths in the UK a year - yet many people have never heard of CUP.
After looking at the work of many charities, Janet and Audrey decided that the Jet HarrisMemorial Fund will fundraise in aid of 'Cancer Research UK specifically to support the research into cancer of unknown primary.
A small team is now responsible for the management of the Fund and £23,125 has been given so far to Cancer Research UK.
Thank you to all who have supported the Fund - please do continue to help us to raise funds for this important work. Sadly the benefits will come too late for Jet but, by supporting this research in memory of Jet, we can help to provide hope and improved treatment for people in the future.
